Call For Applications -- 2023 Richard Fyffe Scholarship Award

Iowa Private Academic Libraries (IPAL) is seeking applications for this year's Richard Fyffe Scholarship Award. The scholarship was established in memory of Richard Fyffe, the Samuel and Marie-Louise Rosenthal Librarian of Grinnell College, 2006-2015. Richard played an important role in the revitalization of IPAL before his untimely death at age 59 in November 2015. Collaboration and scholarly communication were key interests of Richard's and so this award was established to honor his contributions to the library profession.

Any IPAL member library or individual or group employed by an IPAL member library may apply for the Fyffe Scholarship Award. The award amount is $1000 and may be split between multiple applicants. Winning submissions are chosen by the Fyffe Scholarship Award committee which is comprised of the IPAL past president (chair of the committee), the current IPAL president, and three volunteers chosen at the preceding IPAL business meeting.

The award is intended to support scholarly research activities of importance to academic libraries. IPAL is also interested in funding projects that involve any aspect of collaboration such as training events, professional development activities and regional or multi-library workshops. Awards are limited to one per IPAL member library or group per year. No matching funds are required.

Fyffe Scholarship award winners are required to share the results of their projects with the broader IPAL membership. This requirement can be met by speaking at the next annual IPAL conference, submitting a written report to the IPAL website, or other means approved by the awards committee.

Submissions are due April 21, 2023. Apply for the award by completing the online form.  Winners will be notified in May before the IPAL- ILA/ACRL joint conference. Funds will be distributed in July 2023.
