2018 Fall Director’s Meeting
The Future of IPAL: Purpose & Future Initiatives
Friday, Nov. 30, 2018, 9:00 a.m. to Noon
Drake University, Des Moines, IA in Cowles Library
The purpose of this meeting is to discern and communicate a clear future path for IPAL, especially in light of the creation of IALA. What do the private academic libraries in Iowa need that IALA and ILA/ACRL are not equipped to provide? Your voice and your ideas are important! Kate Nevins (formerly Lyrasis Executive Director) will lead us in a half-day strategic planning session.
Be watching for a brief survey from the IPAL steering committee to gather ideas about future initiative in advance of our meeting.
Lunch
Due to the the IALA meeting starting at 1:00 p.m., IPAL will provide box lunches. You can choose either:- Roasted Vegetable Multigrain Sandwich (roasted squash, peppers, red onion, greens, with herbed goat cheese on a multigrain roll), fruit salad, chips, dessert and beverage. (Vegetarian option)
- Tuscan Grilled Chicken Sandwich (balsamic coated grilled chicken on a multigrain roll with fat-free hummus, bistro sauce and roasted onions and peppers), fruit salad, dessert and beverage.
Parking Information
Visitors to campus are encouraged to buy a daily parking pass in advance. This allows visitors to park in any lot.Additional parking information from Jill Gremmels, Dean of Cowles Library: “If you want to park on the street, pay attention to the signs. Parking on the north (library) side of University Avenue ends at 4 p.m.; parking on the south side doesn’t start until 9 a.m. Parking tickets are $30, and parking enforcement is often lying in wait to begin ticketing at 4:01. University Avenue is a city street, so parking enforcement is by the City of Des Moines, not Drake; there’s nothing we can do for you if you get a ticket. The side streets have fewer restrictions, but there is construction a couple of blocks south of University that is limiting the amount of parking there. With a $5 parking pass, you can park in the big lot across University, where there’s always room, or in the Olmsted lot west of the library, if you can find a space.”
